Nightmare
I finally heard it, ‘flight FL8567 is now boarding at gate number 12,’ Maggie and I stand up as we grabbed our bags and belonging and start walking towards to gate. We were a couple who just got married on an adventure to Thailand, first stop, Bangkok.
“This flight took forever to get ready” said Maggie who is putting her ipad away as she walked.
“I know, I hope the food on it is good~. I could eat a whole cow now.”
Maggie rise her eyebrow and said “Don’t eat too much hun, we will have our dinner at Thailand, save some space”
Twelve hours later we landed in the main international airport. I was shocked at how clean the airport was; my understanding of Thailand was a third world country. As soon as we stepped into arrivals we were bombed with locals providing taxi services, bus services, car services, hotels, trips around the country, the list was endless but it was the trips that caught our attention. We wanted to see and do as much as possible inside the 2 weeks we had.
Maggie pointed to a guy who is holding up a “trips see everything!” sign. He looked dark, sultry and confident.
“Well, let’s check it out” I walked toward to him with Maggie
‘Are you looking for adventure? Very cheap trips for you,’ he said to us in broken English as his long eyelashes blinked and stared at us admiringly.
‘Let me handle this,’ I whispered to Maggie, I didn’t want her to get in the way of a good deal.
‘Hi,’ I returned to him. My smile wavered as his piercing black eyes looked at us up and down, like a human x-ray.
‘Welcome to Bangkok, we offer trips to River Kwai, Siam Niramit, Ocean World and more, everything in good price.’ I looked at him and he continued to speak enthusiastically ‘what do you think’ he gave us a wink.
I looked over at Maggie, she had a dreamy dazed looked in her eyes, uh oh. I didn’t have a good feeling about this guy but she wouldn’t take no for an answer.
He was shifting his weight from left to right, right to left, he looked extremely uncomfortable yet had this amazing smile printed to his face, the two didn’t seem to match.
‘Let me escort you to your hotel,’ he offered.
I suggested to Maggie we should shop and eat around and make our own way there, but Maggie already nod her head. On the second thought, I guess we can always put down our bags and belonging in hotel before going out for nice Thai dinner.
He was quick to pick it up and start walking towards the car park. I walked close behind him to make sure my belonging was safe. Because there were many people around us, I was relieved that I had my passport and money inside a hidden begs within my cloth, one good piece of advice from my mother.
When we reached his rusty silver Honda he opened the back seat and threw my other begs inside. I hesitated; my belongings such as PSP and tech stuffs were in that bag, with the way he handle it I am afraid it might break. I scrambled into the car with fear of my stuff might break. Maybe I was over reacting; he was just a friendly local, right?
As he drove us down street after street he kept saying ‘not much longer now, we will be there right now.’ I’m sure the hotel guide said it only took 10 minutes from airport to there, but we had been driving for 20 minutes at least.
I looked at him through the rear view mirror, he looked very smug. Danger flickered in his eyes as he swerved and honked his way around the city. Something was definitely off; even Maggie could sense it now.
‘It’s ok, you can drop us off here,’ I said. But all I got was the same answer and more speed to the car.
2 minus later before I am about to tell him to stop the car, he pulled over by a building which looks nothing like hotel.
‘We’re here’ he deviously chuckled to himself. I didn’t even have time to open my mouth to ask him is this the right place, both back passenger doors flew open and two huge guys on each side grabbed Maggie and I from the car and push us into that building.
I was shocked but took a moment to get my bearings and clear my head. I realised our bags were still in the car and all of the men were in the room with us. They weren’t after our belongings and then. This is serious.
‘What do you want?’ I shouted. I shouted it loud so I wouldn’t sound terrified. The guy who we met at the airport looked like the leader and he responded first.
‘I hope you have a couple of kidneys to spare.’ he chuckled
I was confused, kidneys? What did he mean by kidneys? We were pushed into another room which had a scalpel and other instruments lying on the floor on a red towel. Blood decorated the floor and walls and there were two buckets of ice on the side.
Maggie started screaming, kicking and shouting. We realised he really did want our kidneys. It was too late. I started thinking about my family when I felt a heavy blow to my head.
Then, I heard the alarm clock going off and woke up in the sweat. Quickly check if Maggie were still next to me, I have found her arms over my head and pulling my hair.
Thanks to God, it was just a dream.
